Stiff-Person Syndrome

OverviewOverview

Stiff-person syndrome (SPS) is an exceedingly rare and chronic neurological disorder characterized by progressive muscle stiffness and painful muscle spasms. People with SPS often exhibit rigid posture and difficulty moving, significantly impacting their quality of life. Although it affects less than 1 in a million individuals, SPS requires timely diagnosis and management to alleviate symptoms and enhance the quality of life.

This disorder can be debilitating, making daily activities challenging and significantly affecting a person's emotional well-being. Owing to its rarity, it is frequently misdiagnosed or mistaken for other neurological disorders.
