Walmart has issued a recall of approximately 850,000 Ozark Trail 64-ounce Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles (model 83-662) due to a serious safety hazard. The black screwcap lid on these bottles can forcefully eject when opened after storing carbonated or perishable beverages like juice or milk, potentially causing impact injuries or lacerations.

Three consumers have reported injuries from the bottles, including two cases of permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye by the ejected lid. The recall affects silver bottles with black lids, measuring 4.41 x 4.41 x 11.5 inches, and featuring the Ozark Trail logo on the side. The model number appears only on the product’s packaging, not on the bottle itself.

The affected water bottles have been sold exclusively at Walmart stores and Walmart.com since 2017, retailing for around $15. Walmart and importer Olympia Tools International urge consumers to stop using the bottles immediately.

Customers can return the recalled bottles to any Walmart store for a full refund. For more information, call Walmart’s recall hotline at 800-925-6278 between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. CT, or visit walmart.com/help or corporate.walmart.com/recalls.

This recall serves as a reminder to never store carbonated or perishable beverages in sealed containers not specifically designed for pressure tolerance. Safety and product use instructions should always be followed to avoid potentially dangerous outcomes.
