Turkana Food Inc., based in Kenilworth, New Jersey, has issued a voluntary recall of 352 cases of Floria Dried Apricots due to the presence of undeclared sulfites, a common food preservative that can cause serious reactions in people with sulfite sensitivity. The affected products were sold in multiple states including Florida, New Jersey, New York, California, Texas, Illinois and others.
This recall applies specifically to 200-gram paper packages of Floria Dried Apricots with Lot #440090478-15-333 and UPC 2539560010. The expiration date reads November 2026 and can be found on the bottom of the package. A sticker with the UPC appears on the top side.
The recall was triggered by routine testing from the New York State Department of Agriculture, which found sulfites in the product that were not disclosed on the label — a serious concern for individuals with sulfite allergies or asthma. While no illnesses have been reported so far, the company has halted production and distribution and is cooperating with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to resolve the issue.
If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions can call Turkana Foods at 908-810-8800 (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.– 6 p.m. ET).
